Senior Phase Online Learning

Welcome to this online learning portal where you will have access to tasks for each subject that you have chosen for your next level of study.

 

You will work on relevant tasks and activities for each of these subjects during May 2020. Most subjects will set you one task per week, but some may set a longer term project.

 

More details are included in the full Senior Phase Online Learning Procedure.

 

In summary, current S4 and S5 pupils will start on their next level of learning by selecting the subjects and levels on this page which will transfer them to the subject’s pupil SharePoint page. The link will transfer you directly to the task you need to complete during May 2020.

Rationale

 

To ensure continuity of engagement for current S4 and S5 pupils by embedding key core skills and developing skills required for the next stage in learning.

 

Aim

 

To ensure that current S4 and S5 pupils experience project-based and deeper learning activities relating to their next course of study during May, and then embark on their new timetable in June.

Computing

For Higher Computing Science, read the ‘Instructions‘ word document on SharePoint and then choose one option to complete. If you complete your chosen option, you can begin working on the other. Email Mr Meechan if you have any difficulties.

Engineering Science

To prepare you for Higher Engineering Science in June 2020, your teacher would like you to watch the following videos and complete the revision questions attached.  In week 4 you will be asked to write a personal statement about why you are taking Engineering Science and what type of engineer you wish to be.  Use the videos provided, and other resources and knowledge you have, to research the different roles and responsibilities of engineers and the types of work they are involved in.  Your personal statement will be expected as part of Unit 1 during the course in June.

Over the past 3 weeks you have watch videos exploring the impossible situations and problems that challenge engineers.  All engineering is about solving problems, and now we want to hear your personal opinion.

 

Complete the following tasks:

 

  1. Research a variety further education establishments with a focus on any engineering courses they offer.  You should record the entry requirements to the course.   The use of ‘my world of work’ can also be research to recognise careers pathways.

 

  1. Write a personal statement, of no more than 300 words, about what type of engineer you want to be and why.  Include why you are taking Higher Engineering Science and make references to the context of the role, the challenges you would face and the social, economic, sustainability and environmental impacts of that type of engineering.

 

Your teacher would also like to hear how you are planning to achieve your best grade possible whilst studying Higher Engineering Science.

 

Upon the first week of the course (beginning of June timetable), your personal statement will be required to be submitted this to your teacher.  We are looking forward to reading about your well researched and reasoned personal take on engineering.

PART 1 – Music Literacy – Within this folder there is a document called “READ CAREFULLY….” Open that file and then select the stream of work that you will follow; N4 or N5. Open the relevant folder and complete the assignments week by week.

 

PART 2 – Understanding Music Project

For Higher Music the process is as above, but within Music Literacy folder there is an additional ‘Noteflight Literacy Extension’ scheme which you can choose.
