This course is aimed at candidates who have a strong interest in dance, previous experience and are looking to develop their understanding and abilities within a variety of styles.
There are 3 main components of the course:
Component 1: question paper (30marks) 20%
Component 2: practical activity (65marks) 45%
Component 3: performance (35marks) 35%
Visiting assessors appointed from the SQA will assess performances. The question paper is also externally assessed.
Structure of the course:
To allow candidates to apply knowledge and understanding of dance as well as develop a range of technical skills National Dance is taught over two years. In S3 the emphasis is on building technical skills. In S4 the class will progress into choreography and finalise performances.
Kit for dance is advisable (leotard, leggings, jazz/ballet shoes).
This higher course is aimed at pupils who have previous experience and have a passion to further their ability and understanding. The course assessment has a greater emphasis on solo performance; therefore, candidate should have previous experience. Entry requirements for Higher Dance are that the candidate should have passed National 5 Dance.

Structure of the course:
This course is taught over one year and the technical skills and choreography are taught simultaneously. They will develop two styles of dance for solo performances, as well as enhance their creativity to plan and create a group choreography.
